One of IR's KK5B series of piston air motors

Ingersoll Rand (IR) has been serving businesses with world-class industrial tools for more than 150 years, and its products are available in Canada through Dobco Equipment Ltd. The manufacturer makes the ARO brand of air motors, which comprises more than 200 models – like the KK5B series of piston air motors for winch and hoist-type applications. Like all IR air motors, this series serves users best as a flexible alternative to electrical power sources.

Extensive range of options

ARO air motors by IR distinguish themselves from their electrical equivalents with their ability to create power from the natural environment. These are efficient devices with many important advantages and an extensive range of options for customers. The diverse variety of models means they work for many different scenarios.

Among the benefits are infinitely variable speeds and torques and instant starting, stopping, and reversing. They can be stalled or overloaded for long periods without any damage, so they never burn out or overheat. Other advantages of these air motors from Dobco include cool running characteristics and high design flexibility, and users can operate them safely in dangerous conditions, due to the lack of heat buildup and sparks.

The KK5B series comprises direct-drive piston air motors, each with a radial piston design that allows operation in winch and hoist-type tasks. These durable motors function in challenging environments and can work at different speeds and torques. They are available with both flange and foot mounting options. The series includes two reversible models, the KK5B546 and KK5B550; each one weights 113.9 kilograms and measures 42.29 by 45.12 centimetres.

The KK5B546 model of piston air motors provides a maximum power of 21.6 kilowatts, torque stall of 300 foot-pounds, free speed of 1,800 revolutions per minute (RPM), starting torque of 248 newton metres, and air consumption of 22½ cubic metres per meter at maximum power. The KK5B550 has maximum power of 22.3 kilowatts, torque stall of 325 foot-pounds, free speed of 1,750 RPM, starting torque of 274 newton metres, and air consumption of 21.4 cubic metres per meter at maximum power.
