The piab piFLOW®p SMART Conveying Cycle Optimizer is available from Firing Industries.

Firing Industries Ltd. supplies vacuum conveying solutions by piab, including the semi-automated piFLOW®p SMART Conveying Cycle Optimizer, or CCO. This new addition to the manufacturer’s premium conveyor series moves more material at once, with fewer operating skills required and lower energy expenses. The CCO focuses on the needs of continuous production and enables pickup of material, through a pipe or feed nozzle, from a bag dump station or directly from a barrel.

Maximum use of system capacity

Fewer cycles are necessary to move product to packaging, sieving, milling, or dosing operations. By maximizing the use of system capacity with every new cycle, this piab device optimizes the conveying process. The dual-sensor solution allows the CCO to use the whole entire batch volume in each cycle; the user needs to set only one parameter – that of the air-carrying valve. The conveyor itself adapts all other settings accordingly.

The CCO’s top sensor measures the quantity in the conveyor and stops the filling cycle when it reaches the maximum level. It also prevents material overfill: it shuts down the conveying cycle before material reaches the filter, virtually eliminating filter breakage and thereby reducing downtime and replacement cost. The bottom sensor closes the bottom lid once the body is empty, causing the process to restart immediately.

A shock of compressed air cleans the filter during the discharge phase, which helps extend filter lifespan. Users can set this system from Firing Industries to perform one to five filter shocks, depending on the material, and an air channel blow cleans the sensor heads by pulses of compressed air until the sensors are de-triggered. All settings are done at the electrical control unit and visualized through a user-friendly human-machine interface.

The CCO is almost as easy to use as a screw conveyor is; the user needs only to set the carrying air, because the device automatically adjusts the suction and discharge times to the material flow. This relieves the operator from controlling three parameters and spending several cycles fine-tuning the process for improvement.
