The BVO device, as displayed by the piab team at Pack Expo International

Firing Industries Ltd. carries the full range of piab vacuum-conveyor equipment, including the new Batch Volume Optimization (BVO) solution. The manufacturer recently introduced this innovative processing device at the Pack Expo International 2022 trade show, held at McCormick Place in Chicago from Oct. 23 to 26.

Developed to handle bulk solids with a broader adaptation of automation, this piab product achieves higher productivity in the food-processing, chemical, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Confident conveying every time

Ben Forgue, head of applications and customizations for the Americas in the piab vacuum-conveying division, demonstrated how the BVO solution works at the trade fair. The device has a high-level probe that automates the suction time; the user can see the sensor head through a glass window. As the product fills into the chamber, it hits the sensor head, which automates the suction time. This allows the user to fill the device to its maximum capacity for each cycle. It also stops product from backing up beyond the inlet, which can result in issues with the filter getting packed with material.

The BVO device helps with automation, and it significantly reduces energy consumption, since the user can work with as much product as can fit into the device at any given time, according to Forgue. So it is a step up from the standard piab vacuum-conveying solution from Firing Industries, with which the operator sets the suction and the discharge time. Another key advantage of the BVO solution is that it includes a blow-down port, so that during the discharge cycle, a positive pulse of air comes through and helps to clean off any buildup on the tip of the probe – particularly if the user is working with a sticky or challenging product. The blow-down port helps to increase the lifespan of the sensor.

With the BVO device from piab, manufacturers get confident conveying every time. For a closer look at how it works, watch this video:
