low temperature tape

Denso LT petrolatum tape, or low temperature tape, came in very useful in a recent piping-installation project in Pickering, Ont.

Construction contractors across the country trust Denso North America for products that seal and protect pipelines, roads, and other types of infrastructure that may crack or leak. The company has a long track record of assisting major construction projects with the best solutions, from petrolatum low temperature tape to road-maintenance products.

One recent example was a concrete-piping installation project in Pickering, Ont., a city just east of Toronto. Once again, Denso products were on hand to provide exactly the solution that the project needed.

How to prevent water infiltration

The Region of Durham, which includes Pickering, initiated plans to install wastewater concrete piping of one metre in diameter. For this project, the Region hired Clearway Construction as contractors. But when Clearway began work on the installation, one of its top concerns was infiltration. This was a potential hazard because the piping was to cross land bordering on an old landfill site, which meant that contaminated water could ultimately end up in treatment. In addition, concrete bell and spigot piping comes with the risk of infiltration of water and organic plant material.

To prevent these problems, Clearway turned to Denso.

The workers chose to wrap the piping joints with a type of petrolatum tape – specifically, Denso LT Tape, or low temperature tape. Before placing each concrete section, Clearway personnel laid the LT Tape down with two lengths at a 50 per cent overlap. After setting the concrete, they pressed the tape against it in a way that pushed out all the air and closed the seams. A long wrench was used to reach the piping’s lower sections and press the tape against the lip of the concrete.

Denso low temperature tape has many advantages. It is easy to install in all environments and climates, requires minimal surface preparation, and continues to perform regardless of cracks in the substrate. Its material blends allow pressing out of creases and folds. With this tight seal, the Region of Durham can rest assured that this tape will stay flexible and remain as a watertight barrier against infiltration for years.
