The BTC01 standalone industrial box thin client

Pepperl+Fuchs manufactures many great solutions for hazardous work environments, which are available in Canada through Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC). For modular virtualized HMI systems, the company offers the BTC01 standalone industrial box thin client. This device is an industrial-grade product that is robust, reliable, and easy to use.

Among the many advantages of this product from Pepperl+Fuchs are its energy-efficient fanless design, its dual NIC cards, and its enhanced performance and security.

What are thin clients?

Thin clients are stateless, fanless desktop terminals without hard drives. Using this instrument enables the storage of all features typically found on a desktop PC – such as applications, sensitive data, and memory – back in the data centre. Companies use thin clients as PC replacement technology to help customers instantly access any virtual desktop or virtualized application. They provide a cost-effective way to create a virtual desktop infrastructure.

PIC offers the BTC01 preloaded with RM Shell 4.0 or 5.0, Pepperl+Fuchs’ proprietary operating system, and ACP ThinManager-ready versions are available. The incorporation of VisuNet RM Shell software enables a user-friendly touchscreen optimized interface that simplifies integration, advanced security features, auto-connect and connection-loss features, and Windows Embedded Standard 7. This thin client can run up to four systems simultaneously and restricts users to predefined web addresses.

The BTC01 thin client is constructed on an aluminum chassis with a fanless design, without any internal moving parts and with a safe operating temperature range from -200 to 600 degrees Celsius. Pepperl+Fuchs has designed the device for harsh environments, by making it resistant to both shock and vibration. Another key feature is the instrument’s small, compact design, weighing less than eight pounds, which enables users to mount it to a wall, inside a cabinet, or on a desktop with virtually no effort.

Other advantages include an internal power supply for an AC or 24-volt DC input, support for up to four monitors, and an option for Class 1, Division 2 hazardous locations. The BTC01 is fully customizable for any application and arrives to the customer ready to use right out of the box.
