The 5500 Series purge and pressurization system

Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC) offers a broad range of industrial devices by Pepperl+Fuchs. One impressive product is the 5500 Series purge and pressurization system, part of the Bebco EPS line of proven purge solutions. This system applies a modern approach to the Ex p protection method. As a Type Z/Ex pz purge system, the 5500 series offers a fully automatic solution in a compact, 316-litre stainless steel design, along with other top features.

A safe, economical choice

A wise selection for applications in hazardous work conditions, this purge and pressurization system is a safe, economical choice for installing electrical equipment in demanding environments. It serves as an all-in-one solution for Division 2/Zone 2 tasks, with many features and benefits that help to create a safe area inside a standard enclosure, so that general-purpose equipment can be used in hazardous areas.

One feature is its menu-driven programming. This control unit can be mounted internally or externally as it offers an easy-to-use interface, so operators can choose from a list of custom programs to find one that fits the specific application. The user can also define temperature ranges to control and alarm critical temperatures within the purge enclosure: at a critical temperature, a solenoid displaces air or initiates heating or cooling functions within the enclosure. If a pressure drop is detected, the system compensates automatically, to make sure pressure within the enclosure does not decrease below the minimum value.

This purge and pressurization system also has an EPV-5500 vent, which functions as a pressure-relief device. The vent allows the purge gas to exit the enclosure while providing a seal when the enclosure is pressurized and operating. Its mechanical construction supports universal mounting, to fit easily in cabinet or machine housing designs.

Another major advantage of the 5500 series is that it has third-party worldwide approvals for NEC, CEC, and IEC standards, plus CE directives for Class I, II, III/Division 2, and Zone 2/22 environments.

The skilled technical-support representatives at PIC can help customers select proper 5500 model and accessories to begin or complete any project.
