Bluetooth beacon

Pepperl+Fuchs is a pioneer in the field of explosion protection and sensor technology, with products available in Canada through Process Instruments & Components Inc. (PIC). This manufacturer has designed and developed many innovative products, including its successful Bluetooth beacon – which enables workers to conduct indoor navigation and positioning in buildings where GPS navigation is unlikely to work. This device has become the industry standard for indoor navigating.

Locating injured mobile workers

Businesses use these small radio beacons by placing them in rooms and outdoor locations at regular intervals. The devices use Bluetooth low-energy technology to emit signals that are receivable on cell phones or other receivers. This way, users can easily locate people and objects in large industrial areas. This kind of Bluetooth beacon technology is ideal for many applications, like locating injured mobile workers before launching rescue measures, sending warning signals in case of unauthorized people entering secured or dangerous areas, or tracking objects that have been moved between different areas or rooms.

These beacons have been designed with an interior range of about ten to 30 metres. They are capable not only of accurate positioning of up to one metre, but also of three-dimensional positioning, allowing the user to specify the floor on which the person or object is currently located. Another use is to calculate the distance from the Bluetooth beacon to the receiver with the signal transmission. A mobile worker can determine location very accurately when positioned within reach of another beacon.

Pepperl+Fuchs Bluetooth beacons offer many other user benefits. Power-saving Bluetooth Low Energy technology results in longer battery life. The devices also offer easy, flexible installation with no complex cabling required, as well as low costs for acquisition and installation. With a small, inconspicuous design, the beacon is compatible with many different operating devices and systems.

These beacons are the perfect solution for security, safety, and tracking purposes in indoor applications.
