Pegasus Glass is committed to continuous innovation. The Cambridge, Ont.-based glass manufacturer has been in business for more than 40 years, and is a strong believer in taking appropriate risk to search out possibilities to drive performance and growth.

“Without change, there can be no progress, and without progress, there can be no future,” the company says.

Pegasus has certainly seen its share of change since it was founded in 1968 by brothers Neal and Ron Trent as a process design and engineering company in high purity chemical solvents and acids. It wasn’t until the mid-1970s when the company purchased the Canadian process division of Corning Glassworks, that it began carrying on with all Corning and QVF’s glasswares from the U.K., Germany and the U.S.

In the early 1980s, the glass industry began to grow and Pegasus felt the push to process larger products, so they had a large bell-top oven made — still the largest of its kind in the industry.

By the late 1980s, another new section of the industry was forming — acid waste drainage. It was discovered that glass’ high chemical resistance made it the perfect material for acid waste drainage. With this new type of product in high demand, Pegasus developed a process to assemble the couplings needed for these pipes. This new process was far more efficient than any previous method, ensuring that Pegasus was producing these couplings faster than Corning, its supplier. This much faster turnaround time increased Pegasus’ Canadian purchase quantities and caught the attention of the glass industry. In the early 1990s, a recession hit North America, and Pegasus exited the acid waste drainage business.

By the year 2000, Pegasus started to grow considerably as a result of its products becoming better quality. The company went from primarily a Canadian supplier of tubing and rod, to a North American wholesaler, and has added more staff and production equipment for cutting and processing.

The company has evolved since its early years, and continues to look for opportunities.

“We are committed to an environment of creativity and innovation,” the company explains, “tapping into our resources to explore new options, where every day is a new opportunity, where powerful waves began as ripples.”
