ÖLFLEX® CHAIN TM cable solution offers extra flexibility and value

LAPP has provided innovative cable products to customers all over the world for more than 60 years, including Canadian clients via its Ontario division, LAPP Canada. One of the company’s recent developments is the ÖLFLEX^® CHAIN TM continuous flex cable, a dynamic solution that provides higher flexibility and value.

LAPP combines a special design for continuous flex applications with the advantages of tray cables. It provides a simpler solution for users, who no longer need to worry about choosing multiple cables for an application or terminating connectors between cable chains and trays.

Continuous use in power chains

The ÖLFLEX^® CHAIN TM continuous flex cable is recommended for constant use in power chains with moderate-to-high travel paths and acceleration, as well as in non-stationary machine parts, linear robots and handling systems, and wind turbines. It is part of LAPP’s Core Line performance class.

LAPP has equipped this product with a specially formulated thermoplastic polymer jacket, which optimizes the cable’s flex life, and a special stranding technique that makes it more flexible than other tray cables. The cable is usable in continuously moving cable-chain applications for up to five million bending cycles and in moderate wind-turbine torsion applications with rotational angles of plus or minus 150 degrees per metre. Other advantages of the CHAIN TM include its c(UL) CIC/TC rating for use in cable tray, its UL TC-ER rating to allow conduit-free runs up to 2 metres, and its oil and sunlight resistance.

A shielded version, ÖLFLEX^® CHAIN TM CY, is available, featuring tin-plated copper braiding for reliable protection against electromagnetic influences and for compliance with EMC regulations. Both versions are also backed by multiple UL approvals, which enable more flexible installation options.

To guarantee the highest quality standards for ÖLFLEX^® products, LAPP has invested in in-house cable track testing facilities. CHAIN TM has met rigorous test requirements, ensuring that it can handle up to ten million bending cycles, travel speeds of ten metres per second, and acceleration rates of up to 100 metres per second squared.
