One of the heavy-duty vertical surface broaching machines manufactured by Ohio Broach

World-class broaching is the main reason why The Ohio Broach & Machine Company has such a wide-ranging customer base. But the firm also designs, build, and sells various models of broaching machines for different needs, including a series of heavy-duty vertical surface broaching machines. Ohio Broach manufactures them all at its Willoughby, OH facility. These vertical machines come with strokes that run from 24 to 72 inches and capacity from five to 25 tones.

These machines come in standard colours of machine-tool grey or vista green, and other colours are available upon customer request. Each of these vertical surface broaching machines has a standard voltage of 480/460, three phases, and 60 hertz, and alternative voltages are available too.

Among the many key advantages of this broaching equipment:

  • Hardened and ground steel ways – machine ways built with high carbon steel are utilized in these machines. First, the Ohio Broach team hardens and tempers the steel; the next step is to grind the steel to closely controlled tolerances, ensuring durability and a long operational life.
  • Hydraulics – high-performance and fixed-displacement vane pumps used in tandem with other valves and controls. This design forms the bases of the standard machine drive system. This system model has dependable open-loop design, with the valves and pumps mounted onto a self-contained hydraulic reservoir.
  • Lubrication system – pressurized, individual point lubrication used in all of these machines, without any “tree-type” lube circuits. Standard system features include low-reservoir-level indication, anti-start interlocking when the machines is in automatic control mode, and high-pressure indication for detecting impaired normal flow conditions.
  • Machine frame – ram-slide and table sub-assemblies mounted upon a rigid base weldment, and the lower part of the weldment operates as a coolant reservoir for the machine. This enables a compact design that uses up a minimal amount of floor space.
  • Precision ram slide – ram slides made out of close-grain, high-tensile, cast iron material. The surfaces are scraped by hand to achieve a precise fit and then flaked for the highest lubrication penetration.
