Many different shapes can be broached.

For more than 65 years, The Ohio Broach & Machine Company has offered world-class broaching services to North American industry. The staff have developed high versatility in their skills because of customer demand, which has earned a widespread reputation for the company for tackling a diverse variety of projects in many sectors.

From cutting teeth to hand tools and medical implants, the Ohio Broach team can cut and craft metal objects into virtually any shape a client may request.

An essential aspect of manufacturing

Ohio Broach has developed the unique capability to handle most broaching demands it receives from customers, as broaching is an essential aspect of manufacturing for many products on the market. Among the many examples of past success stories with broaching projects that Ohio Broach has achieved:

  • Cast iron. Cast ductile-iron motor mounts and similar items, processed in only one pass through surface or internal broaching;
  • Cutting teeth. Perfect teeth cut into sawing and cutting tools, made simpler through broaching. In one case, the team used “on the fly” broaching to produce triangular cutting teeth on saw blades for pocket knives;
  • Hand tools. Examples include broaching wrenches, medical hemostats, and pliers. Surface broaching works for plier jaws or wrench open ends, whereas box ends on wrenches can be internally broached, and joint areas on hemostats can be straddle-broached;
  • Hexes and squares. Drill bits and other types of tools, cut into squares and other forms with “on the fly” broaching by the Ohio Broach team;
  • Internal broaching. Traditional broaching, or cutting key ways, splines, grooves, or squares into brass, copper, steel, or aluminum;
  • Irregular shapes. Slots, angles, key ways, and radii created by broaching in steel and other materials;
  • Medical implants. Ohio Broach once broached stainless steel surgical implants – in a mere two passes – on a machine that allowed various lengths;
  • Shaft slots. The company also once broached slots in three transmission shafts on a patented shuttle in-feed table;
  • Teeth and serrations. Gear teeth of any size cut into metals;
  • T-shaped slots. “T” shapes cut into brass, steel, or copper machine components.
