traditional broaching

Horizontal machines are used for internal broaching.

After more than 60 years in the broaching business, The Ohio Broach & Machine Company has attained an unsurpassed level of skill in machining techniques – including internal broaching. Also known as traditional broaching, this method is an extremely efficient way of producing internal forms in the bores of mechanical components, like keyways, squares, hexes, and splines. It is also a cost-efficient technique for mass-producing irregular or custom internal forms.

A wide range of materials

Traditional broaching can be conducted with a wide range of materials, including brass, copper, alloy steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. For this method, Ohio Broach both uses and sells horizontal internal broaching machines. Horizontal machines with the HC model designation have close-grained, high-tensile, one-piece cast iron guide heads, while those with the HF designation use continually welded, thermally stressed, relieved, fabricated steel guide heads. All of these machines are designed and constructed to ensure the stability and rigidity that precise tool tracking needs, while using hardened and ground alloy steel machine ways to guide their machine pull heads.

The pull heads have been equipped with precision ground wear pads that users can easily replace or adjust for vertical tool alignment with the standard two-inch, eight-pitch female thread for broach puller attachment. A major benefit of these horizontal broaching machines is the quick return of the broach pull heads to the starting position.

Aside from constructing broaching machines, Ohio Broach also provides turnkey packages that include products and services like work-holding tooling and broach cutting tools. Customers have the option to trial-broach parts at the company’s ISO 9001-certified plant in Willoughby, OH and then repeat this trial broaching at their own facilities. As soon as a traditional broaching project is underway, Ohio Broach also offers tool sharpening to maintain optimal performance.

For almost every application, Ohio Broach has access to a complete range of broaching machines, including special ones for exceptional applications. From complex tasks to machine sales and sharpening or repair, Ohio Broach always has a solution available. Customers across the continent trust this company for internal broaching and more.
