Since its origins in a modest Cleveland four-car garage, the company has used its ample experience, industry knowledge, and gift for finding great solutions to outperform its competitors.

Large facility in Willoughby

In 1956, entrepreneur Charles “Bud” Van De Motter established a new company in his garage, specializing in designing, manufacturing, and sharpening broaching tools for local customers. When demand rose for broaching-equipment rebuilding and contract production broaching, Bud had to expand the firm. So he moved it to a larger facility in the early 1960s, to adapt to an increasing scope of broaching and machine repair.

The company launched an exclusive line of broaching machines in the late 1960s, bringing a milestone in its continuing success and helping to boost its already thriving design, sharpening, and production services. With this fast expansion, Ohio Broach had to move again by 1974 – and relocated to a 20,000-square-foot plant in Willoughby, OH. This facility, which now measures more than 50,000 square feet, is still home to the company’s operations today.

Later highlights of Ohio Broach’s history: the company earned ISO certification in 1998 and eventually upgraded to the ISO 9001:2008 standard. Today, it employs about 35 people and supplies broaching equipment and services to clients around the world. Ohio Broach brings in an annual revenue of more than US$7 million from a customer base that includes the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Israel, the Philippines, South Korea, and China.
