dual-ram vertical broaching machine

A vertical broaching machine used by Ohio Broach

Customers rely on The Ohio Broach & Machine Company for world-class broaching services, but the firm also manufactures its own broaching machines. It makes this equipment for its own use and to send to companies that want to do their own private broaching. One example is a dual-ram vertical broaching machine.

With a compact and versatile design that uses up minimal plant floor space, this vertical machine helps customers to save money.

With precise ram slides

This dual-ram vertical broaching machine is one of many models the Ohio Broach team makes, and it has capacities ranging from five to 15 tons and strokes that run from 48 to 72 inches. Its hardened and ground steel ways are built out of high carbon steel, which is tempered and hardened before the team grinds it to closely controlled tolerances; this results in long operational lifespans and durability.

Precise ram slides are another major feature of the dual-ram vertical broaching machine. These are made from close-grain, high-tensile cast iron, and the surfaces are scraped by hand for exact fits and flaked for maximum lubrication penetration. The compact design includes a ram slide and table sub-assemblies mounted on a rigid base weldment; the lower weldment portion serves as a coolant reservoir.

Ohio Broach has also incorporated a high-performance, fixed-displacement vane pump into this machine, in conjunction with other high-performance valves and controls, which results in a reliable open-loop drive-system design. The machine is available to customers with the traditional alternating ram cycle or with individual ram operation, making it virtually two machines on a common base.

The standard model of this equipment includes platen, non-moving tables, and Ohio Broach offers other table types. Among the examples: tip-back tables that tilt the work-holding fixture back 35 degrees from the horizontal, and in-feed shuttle tables that move on a horizontal plane, so the machine can make repeat passes until a predetermined cut depth is reached. Customers can get a blend of both table types on request, in a more versatile design. The standard colours are machine-tool grey and vista green.
