The four-axis CNC machine used by Ohio Broach

With a broad variety of in-house equipment, the Ohio Broach and Machine Company can offer almost every broaching technique available to customers. This includes CNC equipment. The company’s skilled team of personnel can make virtually any shapes that a customer may require, even irregular ones, through its CNC machining service. Ohio Broach depends on a four-axis, CNC-controlled machine with unlimited movement and specific tool design for an endless scope of forms.

Little investment in fixturing

This CNC shaping machine allows users to remove material from parts with precision. The team can easily produce various shapes and forms in blind holes and against shoulders with this service. This ability is perfect for small-to-medium-sized lots for timely needs, with little investment in fixturing or special tools. Ohio Broach has used its CNC equipment to make a wide range of parts, like steering drive components for trucks and electrical connector sleeves.

Because some clients want to perform their own CNC broaching, the company offers two models of this equipment to broach similar parts. For instance, Ohio Broach makes a single-spindle shaper for broaching electrical connector sleeves, with a special high-speed shaping tool conformed to their different slots. The shaper head can move at 600 strokes per minute for a two-inch stroke and continue cutting into a part until it reaches a specific depth, before the part indexes into the next slot to be broached.

One client broached steering drive components with a CNC shaper machine with a dual shaper head and dual servo-driven indexing tables. This model can finish two parts at once, with a minute-long cycle for a six-splined internal shape. The dual shaper head can stroke up to 600 times per minute and carries a single-edge, special-form carbide insert on each station. One servo motor drives the dual station index table. Ohio Broach supplied two of these machines to meet this customer’s desired yearly production volume.
