Ohio Broach is highly versatile in its broaching.

For 65 years, businesses have received masterful broaching services from The Ohio Broach & Machine Company. Because customer demand has remained strong, the company has developed extreme versatility in its skills. Ohio Broach has earned a widespread reputation for its ability to handle a diverse range of broach projects for many clients.

From hand tools and medical implants to cutting teeth, the Ohio Broach team can cut and craft metal objects into virtually any shape.

A necessary aspect of manufacturing

Broaching is a necessary aspect of manufacturing for many products. So the company has developed the capability to take on every broaching request. Among the examples of broach projects that Ohio Broach has achieved in the past:

  • Cast iron. The Ohio Broach team can process cast ductile-iron motor mounts and similar items in only one pass, with surface or internal broaching.
  • Cutting teeth. Broaching makes it easy to cut teeth into sawing and cutting tools. In one case, Ohio Broach used “on the fly” broaching to create perfect triangular cutting teeth on pocket-knife saw blades.
  • Hand tools. Examples include broaching wrenches, medical hemostats, and pliers. Surface broaching works for plier jaws or wrench open ends. Meanwhile, box ends on wrenches can be broached internally, while joint areas on hemostats can be straddle-broached.
  • Hexes and squares. The Ohio Broach team can cut drill bits and other tools into squares and other shapes with “on the fly” broaching.
  • Internal broaching. Traditional broaching, or cutting key ways, splines, grooves, or squares into brass, copper, steel, or aluminum.
  • Irregular shapes. Broaching can create slots, angles, key ways, and radii in steel and other materials.
  • Medical implants. The Ohio Broach crew once broached stainless steel surgical implants, in only two passes, on a machine that allowed different lengths.
  • Shaft slots. The company once broached slots in three transmission shafts on a patented shuttle in-feed table.
  • Teeth and serrations. Ohio Broach can cut gear teeth of any size.
  • T-shaped slots. “T” shapes can be cut into brass, steel, or copper machine components.
