The Ohio Broach & Machine Company is a family owned business with experience in all aspects of broaching. One reason the company excels is because it has continually expanded its capabilities over its long history.

A humble start

Ohio Broach was established in 1956 by Charles P. Van De Motter, known as “Bud” to many. Van De Motter set up shop in his father’s four-car garage to focus on sharpening broach tools for a small group of customers.

Growth and expansion

In the early 1960s, the business expanded to offer production broaching and equipment rebuilds. The business rapidly grew, requiring the company to move to a larger facility. By the late 1960s, Ohio Broach had begun designing, manufacturing and marketing its own line of broaching machines.

As the business grew in these four areas — design, sharpening, production and manufacturing — the company was again in need of a larger space. So in 1974, Ohio Broach moved to its current location in Willoughby, Ohio. The facility originally spanned 20,000 square feet, but has undergone numerous expansions over the years. Today, the facility has more than 50,000 square feet of floor space.

From its start in a small garage more than 50 years ago, the company has grown to employ about 35 people and ship more than $7 million in sales. Ohio Broach serves customers around the world, and its equipment is in use across Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, Holland, Israel, China, South Korea, and the Philippines.

Capabilities

Over the years, Ohio Broach has continued to expand its capabilities. For instance, the company can build broaching machines of all types, as well as offer troubleshooting and engineering consultation. In addition, the company has employees work in two shifts to offer broach sharpening services 24 hours a day. This allows Ohio Broach to quickly help customers with emergencies and minimize downtime.

Many years of experience and versatile capabilities have made Ohio Broach a leading manufacturer in the industry. For more information on its wide range of services, contact The Ohio Broach & Machine Company.
