material handling conveyors

Proper conveyor maintenance goes a long way, according to Norpak Handling.

Material handling conveyors are vital to the profitability of many business operations. Norpak Handling knows this. As the top Canadian supplier of conveyor equipment by Hytrol, FMH, and other major manufacturers, Norpak knows that regular maintenance processes are essential to ensure that these systems always operate at their peak level.

A recent blog entry by Norpak offers the company’s three top tips on extending the operational lifespan of material handling conveyors.

Proper maintenance is the answer

The key to long-lasting, healthy conveyor systems is proper maintenance. While the Norpak team is always there for the customer with great preventative-maintenance packages, there are several things that the user should do to keep their material handling conveyors working optimally.

Norpak’s three main tips on extending conveyor lifespan:

  • Have a maintenance technician at hand. It helps to have a dedicated staff member available to repair machinery when necessary. This designated technician should keep records to track the system’s health. As part of its maintenance program, Norpak can help the technician set up a reliable, organized system to monitor and log all maintenance activities and to track issues.
  • Keep spare parts for emergencies. A company should prepare a list of spare parts required for each machine – and Norpak can help, with its knowledge of conveyor machinery and its component supply. With Norpak, it is easy to acquire and re-order spare parts, as the company has ready access to most main conveyor spare parts.
  • Schedule regular maintenance times for conveyor systems. Companies should schedule maintenance checks to identify potential issues before they result in shutdown. Examples include checking oil levels, inspecting bolts, and monitoring belts. Depending on the size and make of the system, the Norpak crew can set up maintenance training sessions, either onsite or at the Hytrol plant, to help employees better understand how these conveyor systems work.

While it is the customer’s responsibility to keep consistent maintenance processes going, Norpak is always able and willing to help out. With maintenance in place, any company can eliminate unnecessary downtime and keep conveyors working for years.
