Norpak Handling offers new Hytrol gappers for sortation conveyor systems

Hytrol has recently launched two new gapper units.

Hytrol Conveyor Company produces an unmatched range of material-handling products that are available in Canada through Norpak Handling, an authorized Hytrol Integration Partner. The manufacturer recently launched two gapper products, Gapper D and Gapper O. These gappers serve as essential components for sortation systems in any warehouse or manufacturing environment.

Also known as a metering belt, a gapper consists of a slider bed with two separate belts running at different speeds, creating space between items on a conveyor belt to enable more efficient, accurate sortation.

Two types of gappers available

Another key benefit of using gappers is that they allow printing, label application, barcode reading, package weighing, and other operations more room and time to be performed properly – leading to a more efficient and productive facility overall.

Hytrol makes two types of gappers – blow-through and gap-optimization gappers. A blow-through gapper belt runs at a fixed speed, according to the required ratio, to create the needed gaps between items. Simple and economical, the blow-through option is recommended for conveyor systems built for similar-sized packages.

Gapper D is a new blow-through gapper that uses direct gap ratios. Its features include a one-piece design, automatic belt tracking, precision bearings, and a spring tension take-up indicator. With these features, Gapper D can reduce a conveyor’s downtime, facilitate belt tension correction, and minimize noise and vibration.

The second gapper type available, the gap-optimization gapper, is highly recommended for maximizing throughput of packages with various sizes and weights. These gappers have sensors along their lengths that maintain consistent gap distances. Each sensor provides data that determines how an optimizer re-adjusts the speed at which the gapper runs. Although more expensive than the blow-through option, the gas-optimization gapper is the ideal choice for complex sortation applications.

Gapper O is Hytrol’s new gap-optimization gapper. It has the same features that Gapper D offers, but also provides optimization of gap distances between items on conveyor belts.
