Intralox's ARB technology can be incorporated into custom Norpak systems.

One of the reasons to rely on Norpak Handling for material handling is its ability to customize solutions according to individual needs. For example, the Norpak team can imbue a custom conveyor with the Intralox ARB belt. The ARB technology came in handy recently, when Norpak was tasked with creating a specific solution for a customer in the food-processing industry. As always, Norpak created the perfect solution.

How the ARB works

This customer needed to align cartons to the correct side of a row-forming area before they went into a palletizer. For this custom conveyor, the ARB (Activated Roller Belt) solution was the perfect fit.

Intralox is known for world-class engineering skills, and ARB technology is one of its major innovations. This unique, patented belt solution offers many user advantages: higher throughput; less maintenance; fewer safety hazards, because moving parts are encased; 40 per cent smaller footprint than traditional roller technologies have; and precise, consistent product spacing.

This aligner keeps items resting on free-spinning angled rollers that protrude above and below the belt surface. Rollers are embedded in the belt and angled in relation to the direction of the belt’s movement, so the rollers triggered by the conveying surface below can move items with respect to the direction of the roller orientation, rather than the belt direction. Because the aligner is selective in the items it conveys, it enables items to change direction, alignment, location, or speed independently, with no need for complicated controls or rail installations.

After putting together this custom conveyor for the food manufacturer, Norpak Handling gave it a test run in its own facility prior to shipment and installation. To integrate this new system smoothly, the Norpak team put a heavy-duty bead rail into place along the side to which the cases were directed; this prevented any hang-ups from occurring during conveyance. Norpak’s custom solution worked perfectly, justifying the company’s reputation as conveyor experts once again.
