Northern Industrial Supply Co. (NISCO) can supply a variety of durable expansion joints from Holz Rubber Company. These expansion joints are available in several varieties, including high-temperature, metallic, piping and flue-duct joints, to meet different requirements. However, when it comes to particularly challenging applications, specially designed expansion joints are available.
Demanding conditions
Flue gas desulphurization is an example of an extremely challenging environment. Most expansion joints on the market do not fare well in this type of process due to the ”wet” atmosphere involved at inlet and outlet locations. In addition, conventional expansion joints have a cavity that can fill with acidic liquid, which will penetrate the unit and start to degrade the bond between the elastomer and reinforcement plies. The result is weaker tensile strength and, eventually, complete deterioration of the joint. Another challenge involved with this application is the pressure fluctuations that occur due to stack draft during certain weather conditions.
Long lasting solution
NISCO can supply the solution. Holz Rubber Company has developed a special flex joint that can handle these harsh conditions. The company's innovative FGD flex element has an outer flex element made from durable Viton, which will resist acids. This solution has also been proven to stand up to pressure shifts as high as five psig. In addition, it has an inner gas seal made from a PTFE barrier with zero porosity. By combining these advanced, robust materials, these flex joints provide reliability and long life.
