Elesa ZCL cylindrical spur gears, available from Gould Fasteners

One of the many veteran manufacturers whose products are available in Canada from Gould Fasteners is Elesa, which designs and manufactures components for mechanical industries. An innovator in plastic and metal parts for more than 70 years, Elesa has released its latest transmission elements, highly recommended for their low weight and minimal noise.

Manufactured out of glass-fibre, reinforced, polyamide-based technopolymer, Elesa’s new transmission elements come in two groups – ZCL cylindrical spur gears, and ZCR racks. Both elements have straight teeth, a pressure angle of 20 degrees, and a grey colour.

High strength and torsion resistance

Transmission elements are designed to transfer speed and torque in mechanical systems. In recent years, the engineering of plastics and technopolymers has evolved into the production of spur gears made of plastic material with high mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion and other types of potential damage.

Now available online as part of Elesa’s vast inventory of machine components, these spur gears and racks come in multiple variations of different measurements. ZCL gears are available with plain pass-through holes with a maximum tolerance of IT 9 and are also useful in assembly with a transversal grub screw. ZCR racks are available in square sections with or without metal cores and either with mounting brackets or T-shaped, and special lengths are available on request.

Both of these transmission elements from Gould Fasteners provide many advantages common to plastics products, such as:

  • Noise reduction;
  • High tensile strength;
  • High torsion resistance;
  • Corrosion and chemical resistance; and
  • A low friction coefficient, enabling gears to operate even in applications without lubrication.

Another advantage of the ZCL and ZCR is their low specific weight. This makes them a good choice in applications that require general weight reduction, leading to savings over metal gears. They can also be coupled with both technopolymer and metal gears, making them suitable when users need a faster dissipation of the heat that accumulates.

ZCL and ZCR transmission elements are the latest additions to a lineup that has won Elesa 35 international awards over the years.
