New Loctite Light Cure Adhesives – offering high flexibility and fixture speed

Henkel Corporation is the manufacturer that Canadian industry trusts for the top adhesive products, particularly those under the Loctite brand. Now, the company has launched its latest adhesive innovation for the medical-device sector: Loctite Flexible Light Cure Adhesives for device assembly. Henkel offers two new variations of the new products, the AA 3951 and the AA 3953, and both promise a higher level of flexibility, as well as faster fixture speed.

Ideal for the assembly of a wide range of disposable medical devices

Loctite’s AA 3951 and AA 3953 adhesives are perfectly suited for assembly applications of disposable medical devices, such as tubes to fittings, respiratory devices, catheters, fluid containers, endoscopes, and certain other reusable devices. These adhesives outperform previous similar light cure options with their high flexibility, strong adhesion to common flexible materials, and high fluorescence in both uncured and cured states. The AA 3951 and AA 3953 have passed tests to ensure their compliance with Henkel’s comprehensive ISO 10993 biocompatibility protocols as well.

Another considerable advantage of these new adhesives is their high elongation. To test an adhesive’s elongation level, Henkel uses a Loctite CL30 LED flood system to cure bone-shaped samples prepared with these adhesives, then stretches the samples with a mechanical properties tester equipped with an extensometer. Henkel then records the moment that the sample breaks. This method has determined that the AA 3951 and AA 3953 have more than 250 per cent more elongation than other brands. Other notable characteristics of Loctite Flexible Light Cure Adhesives: a colourless-to-straw appearance; a two-millimetre depth of cure after ten seconds; a fixture speed of three seconds; a shear strength of 3,200 pounds per square inch on polycarbonate; and an ability to withstand temperatures from -54 to 149 degrees Celsius.
