New linear position transducer from Wainbee works quickly and flexibly

Gefran's RK-5 C contactless magnetostrictive linear position transducer, available from Wainbee

One of the newest additions to the Wainbee family is the RK-5 C contactless magnetostrictive linear position transducer from Gefran.

Innovative technology for long life

Designed for application inside oil hydraulic cylinders, the RK-5 C is a vibration-resistant, flange-fitted transducer for speed and displacement measurement, with a wide range of cursor configurations that enable high installation flexibility, as well as compatibility with the standard specifications of cylinder manufacturers. It offers high performance in read measurement transduction defined as linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability.

This transducer includes Gefran’s patented ONDA magnetostrictive technology, which enables easy installation with its compact, modular structure. With no electrical contact on the cursor, wear and tear is completely absent, guaranteeing a long life of service. The RK-5 C is also strong enough to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 105 degrees Celsius and handle pressure up to 350 bars, vibration of up to 25 g, and shock of up to 100 g – enabling workers to use it in heavy-duty applications such as mobile hydraulics.

The RK-5 C also uses the CAN fieldbus communication system for quick, safe, and secure transmission, plus CANopen DS-301 and Device Profile DS-406 for fast, easy integration in control and automation systems.

Other features of this linear position transducer:

• typical sampling time of one millisecond;
• displacement speed of less than or equal to ten metres per second;
• speed resolution of one millimetre per second;
• electrical insulation of 500 Volts (D.C. Power supply/ground);
• power consumption of one Watt;
• protects against polarity inversion and over-voltage; and
• maximum acceleration of 100 metres per second squared displacement.
