The T40CB compact torque transducer by HBM

Durham Instruments supplies many solutions by HBM Test and Measurement, and the latest product from this manufacturer is the T40CB compact torque flange. With an extremely short design, this torque transducer is available in two models, each with a central bore of a different size: 37½ by 49 millimetres (mm) in one, 46½ by 54 in the other. HBM’s proven T40 electronics give this device a high level of precision.

High resistance to vibration

This instrument offers an HBM accuracy class of 0.05, a speed of up to 30,000 revolutions per minute, and a nominal torque of 500 newton-metres (with other measuring ranges available on request). Depending on the test concepts, it may be necessary or beneficial to lead lubricant or coolant lines directly through the T40CB. It is frequently necessary to pass a shaft through the transducer when testing coaxial gears too.

The smaller variant of this compact torque flange provides the best flexibility from a mounting point of view, as the user can install it with either threaded or stud bolt mounting. The larger variant, also available from Durham Instruments, offers a large central bore diameter with comparatively short overall length. This unit can be installed exclusively with threaded assembly because of the large central bore.

This powerful, precise compact torque flange is recommended for high-speed applications that require a central bore. It offers excellent linearity, including hysteresis of only 0.03 per cent. Its radiometric method of measurement enables high accuracy and stability. Reliability is another key advantage, with high resistance to rotational acceleration and vibration, plus a digital transmission method (including error detection) that ensures interference-proof data transmission with no loss of accuracy. Users get reliable measurement information and robustness even under tough high-speed ambient conditions.

The T40CB also has the maximum flexibility and user-friendliness required to carry out application tests on automotive parts, like coaxial transmissions or gearboxes. It includes analog and digital interfaces for simple integration into different test-bench systems, plus varying measuring ranges depending on the customer needs.
