The PR-504 Han-Modular Switch US4, from HARTING

The latest breakthrough from the HARTING Technology Group is its innovative Han-Smart modules, which add intelligent capabilities to the acclaimed Han-Modular connector system. Until now, industrial connectors have been purely passive instruments for transmitting power, signals, and other data. Incorporating Han-Smart modules make user-configurable Han-Modular industrial connectors active devices ready to meet the needs of the next generation in manufacturing, while continuing to perform the same passive functions at which they excel.

Rolling out the first three

HARTING has launched Han-Smart with these three modules, with more on the way:

  • Han-Modular Mini-Switch US4. This four-port, unmanaged Ethernet connector is an advanced Ethernet and network switch in one, supporting RJ-45 terminated high-speed Ethernet devices and enabling users to integrate additional Ethernet nodes to simplify expansion and retrofitting. High-resolution cameras and infrared temperature sensors can be incorporated into a network in positions closer to the field if a Han-Modular connector is installed. The US4 is Plug&Play-compatible, supports 10/100/1,000 Mbits per second, and has surge protection and integrated LEDs.
  • Han-Modular Surge Protection. Recommended for protecting low-voltage signal interfaces or machinery that uses a 0/4-20mA current. By putting transient over-voltage protection for digital and analog devices in the connector that would normally require separate, external protection, this module makes wiring arrangements simpler, reducing both space and labour expense. The Surge Protection connector protects up to two pairs of balanced-signal interfaces with electrical isolation against normative 8/20μs current pulses. Surge energy is discharged through the earthed hinged frame of the Han-Modular system.
  • Han-Modular CAN ID. Recommended for wind energy, industrial building automation, machinery, and robotics, this connective module ensures reliable operations and reduces setup downtime with its ten megabytes of memory storage, which helps to retain the revision status of drives and their parameters. This can also form part of a predictive-maintenance solution. Individual machine elements can be repaired or swapped out more quickly during servicing, due to the easy accessibility of the stored drive configuration data, eliminating the need to search for hard copies or electronic files.
