Festo’s Simplified Motion Series of cost-effective electric drives is ideal for jobs requiring very simple motion or positioning. They also are easy to commission.

Festo Canada is on a roll with innovative new products this fall. The latest development is the Simplified Motion Series of electric drives, for applications that need very simple motion or positioning. Extremely easy to commission, these all-in-one units serve as alternatives for users who want pneumatics-like simplicity, with all the required components and modules incorporated (like a motor and controller), but no external controller, control cabling, or control cabinet.

“Plug and work” principle

What distinguishes the Simplified Motion Series from other electric drives is the fast, easy commissioning, which is a practical alternative to the typically complex commissioning process necessary to get standard drives operational. All five of these new drives use the “plug and work” principle, and users can manually adjust all parameters directly on the drive with no special expertise, software, or accessories required. Both Digital I/O and IO-Link are included as standard.

This cost-effective series has been optimized for performing simple movements between two mechanical end positions with special motion characteristics, like gently cushioned retracting into the end position and simplified press-fitting and clamping functions. Festo has designed all five drives with a unique one-size-down assembly system, so users can easily pair them in different combinations.

The five models of electric drives in this series:

  • ELGS spindle and toothed belt axis slides. Includes three sizes of a compact spindle variant (ELGS-BS) and a tooth belt variant (ELGS-TB); users can mount these slides with each other or an EGSS mini-slide.
  • EGSS mini-slide. A resilient mini-slide that provides smooth spindle operations for vertical Z movement or individual guided linear movements in every mounting position.
  • EPCS electric cylinder. Performs single linear movements with a smooth y running ball screw drive that enables exact, fast positioning.
  • ELGE toothed belt axis. Perfect for very simple applications with low requirements for mechanical load, dynamic response, and precision.
  • ERMS rotary drive. For simple swivel tasks and increased mechanical loads, with a rotary place with sturdy, precise, and backlash-free ball bearings that enable absorption of transverse loads and torques. Available in two different sizes.
