New conveyor functionality enables a safer workplace for food and pharma plants

Firing Industries carries many products designed for use in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Piab’s food/pharma conveyor line, for example, is available from Firing Industries with Wet-In-Place (WIP) functionality, ensuring a safer work environment in food and pharmaceutical processing plants.

The advantages of Wet-In-Place functionality

WIP spray nozzles are now available for inclusion/retrofitting in new and existing Piab piFLOWp conveying systems, the company’s premium-grade vacuum conveyors. The water sprayed by the WIP nozzles will wet any dust from food or pharmaceutical materials left in conveyors, stopping it from escaping into the air where it can be inhaled by processing staff during maintenance or cleaning procedures. By wetting potentially harmful leftover material before the equipment is opened for cleaning, the spray nozzles ensure that dust stays Wet-In-Place until it can be safely removed.  

For maximum performance and coverage, and to make sure as much material as possible is captured as quickly as possible, up to three WIP modules can be fitted to each conveyor. The configurable design of the piFLOWp conveyor also allows simple retrofitting of WIP units. Piab’s Ultra Low Penetration Air Filters provide greater filtration than High Efficiency Particulate Air Filters, and are offered as standard accessories for piFLOWp.

The option of adding WIP functionality to the company’s vacuum-based conveying systems for food and pharma materials offers manufacturers the flexibility to upgrade or change their food or pharma production lines, and at the same time ensure the best possible working conditions in their plants, while strengthening their compliance with the most stringent health and safety standards.

Piab’s conveyors come in different sizes and grades, and can handle particle sizes from 0.5 micron. The premium piFLOWp systems can operate over conveying distances of up to 50 metres.
