Festo has released its new compact, double-acting, semi-rotary vane drive, calling it the lightest weight semi-rotary drive on the market. Known as the DRVS, the drive is an easy-to-install, cost-effective solution designed for simple rotational or switching functions.

Features and advantages

The DRVS is pneumatically activated and comes in multiple sizes with 90-, 180- and 270-degree swivel angles. Though it offers the benefit of being lightweight and compact, it is also extremely rugged, offering a long service life, even when operating in harsh environments. This is thanks to the unit’s design. It has a sealed housing, which protects against splash water and dust. In addition, it features elastic PU material on the rotary vane in both end positions, which offers cushioning, while a shaft seal provides protection to the bearings.

Several accessories are available to help users optimize the DRVS for a wide range of applications, like changing conveyor pathways, for example. In this application, an optional, matching position transmitter SRBS can be used to magnetically sense the end positions of the rotary vanes without the need for contact. The encapsulated design of the SRBS makes it easy to assemble, as there is no need to search manually for switching points. It’s also easy to install on the DRVS, requires only one connecting cable, and is built strong for a long service life.

The foot mounting kit is another optional feature that offers advantages. Called the DAMH, this kit allows the DRVS to be installed on either side, with different orientations, while the DADP-ES stop kit is a simple bolt-on accessory that enables infinite adjustment of the swivel angle.
