N.R. Murphy’s clean-air powerhouse: high-efficiency filters for safer workplaces

Murphy recommends these filters for applications in which highly efficient filtration is essential, as the units are perfect for environments that require high levels of cleanliness.

For entrapping dangerous particles

The lineup includes absolute high-efficiency particulate air filters – also referred to as HEPA filters – which are mechanical air filters that function by forcing air through a fine mesh that entraps hazardous particles like pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and tobacco smoke. These accessories are manufactured, tested, certified, and labeled according to current HEPA standards. They are more than 99.97 per cent efficient for particles as small as 0.3 microns and approach efficiency of 99.97 per cent for smaller particles.

These filter media are best suited to the chemical sector and precision-assembly fields. Installation usually requires intermediate or high-efficiency pre-filters upstream of the absolute filter, to keep most dust away and maximize the life of the absolute filter. This lowers their filtering efficiency by about 95 per cent with particles that measure 0.3 microns, but they can be used on their own.

This filter line is developed to eliminate a wide variety of substances from air, including dust, fumes, pollen, mould, bacteria, viruses, and oil or tobacco smoke. N.R. Murphy offers different sizes, most commonly two square feet, and ranging from seven to 12½ inches deep, with airflow capacities from 200 to 2,000 cubic feet per minute. Depending on airflow capacity, the media are useful individually or in series, and both custom and standard models are available for all makes; also available are optional holding frames and side entrance housing, with flanges for easy attachment to ductwork.

Aside from high-efficiency filter media, customers can also choose from among exhaust fans, rotary airlocks, abort dampers, and silencers – accessories that also create workplaces with better air quality.
