The different wheels of N.R. Murphy exhaust fans

For 78 years, dust collectors have been the specialty of N.R. Murphy Limited. But the company’s product range is more diverse. The selection includes a line of exhaust fans that make employee breathing easier and safer. These devices come with four kinds of fan wheels, and each of these wheels is designed for a specific amount of air or material handling for the relevant fan.

Aiming for the highest standards

Exhaust fans’ wheels range from 12¼ to 64-3/8 inches in diameter, from 3.21 to 16.85 feet in circumference, and from seven to 37 inches in inlet diameter. Outlet areas go from 0.265 to 7.41 square feet, and inlet areas from 0.258 to 7.27 square feet.

Aiming for the highest standards, the company builds its own blades for wheels on exhaust fans, all manufactured according to exacting specifications. The four kinds of N.R Murphy fan wheels:

  • EH – an open wheel for virtually any material-handling requirement, made from extra-heavy steel plate to resist extreme shock and abrasion in applications with high material volumes. Recommended for handling air containing small wood blocks, knots, or paper trims with nose cones in their designs.
  • EHL – with a design similar to that of the EH, but for standard material-handling needs.
  • EM-1 – also like EH, but slightly more efficient, with a back plate and individual blade supports for added strength and rigidity. The plate stops wood shavings and long, fibrous, or stringy material from wrapping around the blades. Recommended for sawdust chips and similar items.
  • EA-1 – the most efficient option, designed to withstand high shock and abrasion with high material volumes. Backward-inclined, radial-tipped design with a coned shroud and back plate for extra rigidity, plus a controlled inlet clearance to guide airflow. Recommended for relatively clean air and pulling air through filters and separators, but not for materials.

N.R. Murphy exhaust fans are available in various sizes and capacities, with fan arrangements for almost any application. All are digitally balanced for perfect operation, with optional construction for heavy abrasive material and spark resistance.
