From mild breathing hazards to large dust levels, air-quality equipment for any workplace is the specialty of N.R. Murphy Limited. The company manufactures a family of cyclones, for example, for sawmills and woodworking shops. Forestry requires powerful equipment to collect the volumes of dust spilled into the air, and cyclones are vital for these hazardous environments. They provide a simple and economical way of separating dust from air in medium-to-coarse workplaces.
A wide variety of sizes
Cyclones can be used as standalone air/material separators or in conjunction with other dust collectors; they can also serve as primary separators to provide sizing or classification of material. N.R. Murphy supplies these units in a wide variety of sizes and can make them out of different materials.
Many sectors use cyclones as primary separators that function ahead of other dust collectors, blending gravity with centrifugal action to achieve dust collection and separation. N.R. Murphy designs and manufactures these units with higher efficiency on small dust particles, as well as more updated features.
These cyclones come with varying specifications; customers should consult N.R. Murphy’s technical representatives to choose the most suitable designs and construction materials for their needs, particularly in situations involving severe abrasion or corrosion. N.R. Murphy recommends collecting a sample of the dust in the environment, as density, concentration, velocity, and specific gravity affect cyclone effectiveness.
N.R. Murphy offers three standard construction designs. Standard cyclones are the most common models, available in multiple sizes and suitable for coarse sawdust and shavings or material with few extreme fines. Long cone spirals and skimmers can be added. Chip cyclones have short cone sections and are most recommended for heavy wood chips with minimal fines. High-efficiency units come in various sizes, from larger diameters to smaller units, for different capacities.
These rugged designs use heavy gauge carbon steel, abrasion-resistant steel, special alloys, and rubber linings. The standard design includes heavy gauge wiped galvanized all-welded construction and painting in one of many available colours. Cyclones usually leave the N.R. Murphy plant completely assembled, for fast setup at the customer’s workplace.
