Rosta motorbases save energy and maintenance costs while extending transmission-belt life.

One major type of technology that Rosta and its Canadian branch, Rosta Inc., have mastered is tensioning technology – the concept and production of machine components for maintenance-free tensioning of belts and chain drives. This expertise manifests itself in the company’s tensioner devices and motorbases.

Rosta recommends its self-tensioning motor mounts for suspension in friction belt drives, and these products remain superior to its competitors’ equivalents.

Energy savings and lower maintenance

Rosta motorbases are two-in-one systems, each consisting of a motor support with an integrated self-tensioning system. These components always maintain ideal belt tension, which results in a constant transmission of the nominal torque. With this function, Rosta’s motorbases offer three major advantages for their users:

  • Energy savings. Users need to inspect rigid motor suspensions and re-tension their belts on a regular basis to reduce the chances of belt slip. Rigid suspensions usually have an energy loss of about five per cent, because many belt drives can handle a slip loss of about ten per cent before delivered torque is reduced. This energy loss can accumulate over the long run and be costly for companies. But Rosta motorbases are built to compensate for belt slip constantly.
  • Transmission-belt savings. Companies often use friction belt drives to drive large inertial masses, such as starting up large flywheels for saws, pumps, presses, and stamping machines. Unlike other motor suspensions that result in excessive stretch and early wear in belt sets, Rosta motorbases deflect slightly at start-up and then swivel back to the regular working position when the mass is in stable rotation. This treats belts more gently and extends belt service lives by three times.
  • Maintenance cost savings. While rigid motor suspensions have time-consuming maintenance processes – which include removing belt covers, checking tension, aligning pulleys, adjusting motor position, and performing test runs – Rosta’s motorbases are maintenance-free, saving users a lot of significant time and expense.

These products can mount motors of up to 550 kilowatts, equal to 750 PS in power.
