The Type MB 27 motor base by Rosta

Rosta Inc., the Canadian branch of Rosta, offers businesses the best in tensioning technology, which is the concept and production of machine components for maintenance-free tensioning of belts and chain drives. One of the products that Rosta offers in this category is five models of motor bases. These are self-tensioning motor mounts that work well for suspension in friction belt drives, while remaining superior to similar products from Rosta’s competition.

Three kinds of savings

Motor bases by Rosta are two-in-one systems that consist of motor supports with integrated self-tensioning systems. By always maintaining ideal belt tension, these elements result in constant transmission of the nominal torque. This function begets three prime advantages:

  • Energy savings – To lower the chances of belt slip, users must inspect rigid motor suspensions and re-tension their belts on a regular basis. Rigid suspensions typically have an energy loss of about five per cent, as many belt drives can handle slip loss of only ten per cent before reduction of delivered torque. This energy loss can become expensive as it accumulates over the long run. Rosta manufactures its motor bases to deliver constant compensation of belt slip.
  • Transmission-belt savings – Friction belt drives are often used in work environments to drive large inertial masses, like starting up large flywheels for saws, pumps, presses, or stamping machines. Other motor suspensions result in too much stretch and early wear in seat belts, but Rosta mounts deflect slightly at start-up and then swivel back to normal working positions when mass rotation is stable. By treating belts gently, this extends their service lives threefold.
  • Maintenance cost savings – Rigid motor suspensions have time-consuming maintenance processes that include removing belt covers, checking tension, aligning pulleys, adjusting motor position, and performing test runs. But these Rosta elements are maintenance-free, saving time and cost.

In addition, these components can mount motors of up to 550 kilowatts, which is equal to 750 PS in power.
