tobacco production belts

Timing belts work well in the tobacco industry.

A broad range of industries benefit from the selection of machine belts by Megadyne-Jason – including the tobacco sector. The company manufactures various kinds of tobacco production belts, used in both primary and secondary processes, like slicing and shredding the tobacco leaves, or the drying and flavouring operations. They also work for feeding tobacco to cigarette-manufacturing machines, then on to the handling and packaging equipment and ready for sale.

FDA-approved belt solutions

Among Megadyne-Jason’s offerings is the V series of two-ply polyolefin belts and the HY series of Hytrel belts, both of which excel in tobacco applications. A number of belting solutions, approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, suit the packaging stages; a key example is a spun-cast Hytrel belt that features a small footprint and can be used as a vacuum belt for paperboard cigarette packages. There are also a variety of specialty profile urethane timing belts, recommended for packaging cartons into boxes for shipping.

The two main categories of tobacco production belts available from Megadyne-Jason are timing belts and special or fabricated belts. The four designs of timing belts:

  • Isoran Platinum. The company’s premium rubber timing belt, the Platinum guarantees extreme dimensional stability under static and dynamic tension, coupled with superior flex fatigue resistance.
  • Isoran Silver2. Made with materials with high quality and resistance, to ensure high performance and improved power transmission.
  • Megapower FC. Designed for food-handling applications, this belt offers good chemical resistant and is suitable for applications requiring belt cleaning.
  • HTB. Developed with an efficient curvilinear tooth profile, for better performance in high-torque drives at low speeds.

Megadyne-Jason also offers covers, cleats, modifications, and PPJ to modify its tobacco production belts. Coverings come in polyurethane, elastomer, foam, PVC, and other unique solutions; the choice of correct coating depends on the application field and specific requirements. The company can also customize certain timing belts by welding profiles on the backside.

Among the possible modifications available are perforations, custom shapes, slots, tooth removal, grooves, back grinding, vacuum countersinks, and V-guides. Megadyne-Jason’s PPJ system joins belts directly onto machines.
