Brüel & Kjӕr's LDS V8 medium-force shaker

Brüel & Kjӕr makes its measurement devices available in Canada through Durham Instruments. The manufacturer’s unique LDS V8 medium-force shaker is a powerful, adaptable instrument used for many testing or research/development applications, like pre-production qualification, durability and reliability tests, and product and package testing. It works especially well for high-acceleration shock tests and testing with sinusoidal, random and transient excitations.

High envelope of test parameters

The LDS V8 offers the highest envelope of test parameters that an electrodynamic shaker can achieve. This heavy-duty medium-force shaker delivers top stroke, velocity, and force all at the same time, while combining ample internal load capacity and mounting surface. It is available in two versions, with armature diameters measuring 44 or 64 centimetres; the larger size easily accommodates outsized articles for vigorous testing, and the smaller one is perfect for high G-force tasks with its lightweight armature.

The shaker is popular with customers in the automotive, aerospace, transport, packaging, and military sectors. Durham Instruments recommends it in general manufacturing, automation, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, mining, power generation, and alternative energy too.

Other applications that benefit from this medium-force shaker:

  • Qualification of automotive parts and systems;
  • Electronic assembly and computer equipment testing;
  • Avionics and military hardware testing;
  • Telecommunication and satellite component testing;
  • General stress screening; and
  • Environmental testing with AGREE chambers or Combined Environmental Reliability Tests.

The LDS V8 can be customized for specific needs, and users can fit it with many choices – mount it on an air-isolation trunnion with body rotation gearbox, combine it with an oil-film slip table to allow vertical and horizontal vibration, or base-mount it for under-chamber operation. Depending on payloads, head expanders can be added to increase the mounting systems and ensure secure fastening of devices during testing.

The shaker has a sine force peak of 57.8 kilonewtons (kN), maximum random force of 66 kN, maximum acceleration sine peak of 140 grams, velocity sine peak of 1.8 metres per second, moving element mass of 42 kilograms, and usable DC frequency range up to 2½ kilohertz.
