Mechanical rod locks by Parker offer precise, backlash-free load holding

Machine safety is an important feature of many products supplied by Wainbee Limited, as occupational injuries are costly not only to workers, but also to companies. These items provide precise load holding with almost no backlash, as well as high accuracy in demanding applications.

Mechanical rod locks produced by Parker include the 4MAJ series of cylinders, as well as the P1D series of rod-lock cylinders.

Including a manual override shaft

These rod locks are spring-activated items with air-pressure release. They operate by clamping piston rods to lock them into position, and they apply full holding force to the rods in the absence of appropriate air signals.

The 4MAJ cylinders are NFPA non-lube pneumatic cylinders with manual override. When an air signal of 60 pounds per square inch or higher is present, this releases the locking device. The manual override shafts free the rod locks without air pressure during non-production activities.

Key advantages of using these two series of rod locks include the following:

• Bolt-on modularity. These locks may be removed without affecting the base cylinders, enabling locks to bolt on with minimal change in length.
• Aesthetics. These series have the same anodized aluminum extrusion that cylinder endcaps have, which creates a virtually seamless assembly.
• Functionality. The locks are suitable for a wide range of holding applications.
• Ease of order entry. Customers need only to add a “J” to order the 4MA series with the rod-lock option.

The P1D series from Wainbee is an innovative, future-proof generation of ISO/VDMA double-acting cylinders with a new design of air cushioning. These products are available in bores from 32 to 200 millimetres, with PUR seals for long service life, drop-in sensors, a corrosion-resistant design, and magnetic pistons. They are also lubricated with food-grade grease.

The P1D standard version uses internal composite technology to save weight as it assures high performance and functionality, with cushions, bumpers, and magnetic pistons. Also available are clean, tie-rod, and removable-gland versions.
