Matthias Altendorf hands over a rectangle made of fused glass to Dr Peter Selders in front of the new building, from which the new mural “Global Player” is made. The Endress+Hauser Group remains a leading manufacturer of test and measurement solutions, and the company keeps on expanding its production of level- and pressure-measurement technology. Recently, Endress+Hauser invested about €46 million to expand its location in Maulburg, Germany, with new production and office buildings. This project took almost two years.

The corporation held a ceremony on Oct. 8 to dedicate the new buildings, with business partners and government/industry representatives among the attendees.

Demand for quality and efficiency

The Maulberg location is one of Endress+Hauser’s largest, with more than 2,000 employees, and this expansion adds more than 17,000 square feet, 11,000 of it for production. This large amount of space, with modern infrastructure, will help meet the growing demand for quality and efficiency.

“The new buildings will allow us to cope with the growth stemming from previous years,” Dr. Peter Selders, managing director of Endress+Hauser Level+Pressure in Maulberg, said at the ceremony. “Over the past year, we shifted a lot of things to the virtual environment, but we wanted to celebrate the opening together with people here in our new building, albeit in a small group due to COVID restrictions.”

The buildings were completed last year, with a design that placed high priority on energy efficiency. They feature a photovoltaic system on the roof and a cogeneration unit that supplies heat and electricity, monitored by Endress+Hauser measurement technology. Employees and management began occupying the new buildings early last year.

Two basement measurement sections are still under construction. These will be used for precise calibration of level-measurement instruments with radar technology typically used in silos and large tanks. These sections are each 55 metres long, making them the world’s longest of their kind. Since the smallest measurement deviations may result in high uncertainty when monitoring inventories, customers have a strong interest in calibration.

The dedication included the unveiling of a mural by Britta Schmidhauser, consisting of multicoloured fused-glass rectangles. This mural symbolizes cooperation between all company locations and employees. “If one of the rectangles was missing, the picture would be incomplete,” explained Endress+Hauser CEO Matthias Altendorf.
