Matritech will turn 30 years old next year.

For the past 29 years, Matritech has grown into one of Quebec’s top manufacturers of industrial machine components, counting Bombardier and CVTech-IBC among its high-profile clients. Today, the company manufactures components for road and railway transportation, recreational vehicles, lighting and energy systems, building structures, medical devices, and air-conditioning and ventilation systems.

Every company’s history is a collection of milestones, and Matritech has grown and expanded in many stages over the past three decades.

Die design and fabrication

It all started in 1989, when Matritech was founded as a die-design and fabrication business, operating about of a facility measuring only 3,200 square feet. From there, the company grew quickly, attracting such major customers in the progressive-die area as General Motors, Bombardier, and Inglis. By 1992, it was ready to expand its current site and acquire a complete press system.

In 1994, Matritech was ready to move into a larger facility in a Drummondville industrial park. A healthy company of 19 employees, it also added metal-stamping equipment and wire electric discharge machines to its roster of equipment. Three years later, the company acquired a new press and a CNC punching machine; the following year, the addition of a new press made expansion of the factory necessary: it grew to 32,000 square feet – ten times the size of the original facility.

2003 was a groundbreaking year for Matritech. That was when the company introduced robotic welding to its services, which remains a core part of its business to this day. By this time, Matritech had become ISO 9002-compliant and expanded its workforce to more than 70 employees, as well as adding another 16,000 square feet to its facility. The company has since passed other milestones: installing laser equipment, acquiring more welding and bending robots, purchasing an automatic bundle saw and two machining centres, and transforming its facilities to ensure continuous production flow.

Next year, Matritech will observe its 30th anniversary, and it will continue to grow. It now occupies 85,000 square feet of factory and office space and has invested more than $15 million in fixed assets.
