The new manual cone valve by Matcon

Firing Industries Ltd. supplies industrial solutions by Matcon, including the manufacturer’s renowned intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). Matcon recently launched the manual cone valve, designed for use in the food-processing and chemical sectors – helping users to overcome mix segregation, a common issue with butterfly-valve IBCs.

Using advanced powder-discharge technology, this cone valve by Matcon offers a cost-efficient means of delivering better powder-handling capabilities to a full IBC fleet.

Avoid core flow, particle rolling

Easily retrofitted to any existing flanged IBC, the manual cone valve promotes mass-flow discharge of free-flowing powder, which prevents segregation of powder mixes. The unit is tested and proven as an effective alternative to standard butterfly valves, which often cause core flow and particle rolling.

The user positions the manual cone valve in an IBC outlet, in which the cone is lifted by a push on a lever handle. The rising of the valve inside the container creates an annular gap, which allows powder to exit under mass flow. While the powdered material moves at the same time, no particle rolling occurs, which eliminates segregation – as well as bridging and rat-holing, which are frequent issues with butterfly valves.

Each valve has a nominal internal diameter of 250 millimetres and fits a vessel or process with the same outlet size for discharging free-flowing bulk material. The user can lock the lever in an open or closed position, or any intermediate position in between (depending on the desired product-discharge flow rate), with a handle. A 1,000-litre IBC can discharge 1,000 kilograms of salt in merely 90 seconds.

Other key features of this new cone valve from Firing Industries:

  • simple hand operation;
  • 100-millimetre stroking;
  • variable stroke position locking;
  • quick assembly and disassembly; and
  • promotion of mass-flow powder discharge.

Matcon recommends using its classic IBC system in applications that involve sticky, cohesive powders or that require automation.
