manual cone valve

The manual cone valve is easy to fit onto any Matcon flanged IBC outlet.

Matcon is renowned for its innovative selection of Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) and for being the inventor of cone valves, and Firing Industries supplies its wares in Canada for food-processing operations. The manufacturer has introduced a new solution, designed specifically to overcome the disadvantages of standard butterfly valves: the manual cone valve.

This Matcon valve is ideal for use in the food-processing and chemical industries and eliminates the issues of mix segregation that are common with butterfly-valve IBCs.

Complete discharge of powders

The manual cone valve consists of a valve body with a single-sided internal support arm to maximize product throughput. The user can lock the level in the open (100 millimetres) or closed position with a locking handle, or at any intermediate position, depending on the desired flow rate of product discharge. Each unit has a nominal internal diameter of 250 millimetres and is constructed to fit a vessel or process of the same outlet size.

The device discharges free-flowing powders that carry a risk of segregation and offers a complete mass-flow discharge of these powders, protecting the mix from segregating. It is intended to be used only with free-flowing materials. A key example of discharge time: only 90 seconds for 1,000 kilograms of salt from a 1,000-litre IBC. Features include an integrated cone rod scraper seal and 316L stainless steel construction.

Matcon’s manual cone valve can be easily fitted onto any flanged IBC outlet. The valve is lifted by a push on the level handle; as it rises inside the IBC, it creates an annular gap that allows powder to exit under mass flow. All of the material moves at once, which prevents particle rolling – and, therefore, any segregation of the mix. Bridging and rat-holing are also eliminated.

With this unique Matcon cone valve from Firing Industries, users get better powder-handling capabilities, as well as a cost-efficient means of adding cone-valve technology to an existing system. The classic Matcon IBC system is still recommended for sticky, cohesive powder and in applications that require automation.
