The Badger RCT1000 Coriolis mass flow meter, available from Durham Instruments

Determining the flow, density and temperature of liquids is a crucial part of many sectors, such as manufacturing, automation, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and research and development. High accuracy is required in these applications. To get the job done, Durham Instruments distributes the RCT1000 Coriolis mass flow meter, produced by Badger Meter.

A high level of accuracy

The RCT1000 is perfect for many measurement applications, including adhesives, coating, hardeners, homogeneous suspensions and slurries, dyes, fragrances, vegetable oils and fats, and vitamins. It directly measures mass flow and density of liquids at a wide variety of temperatures.

Its unobstructed, open-flow design allows it to deal with viscous, nonconductive liquids that are more challenging to measure with other similar technologies. With homogeneous liquids made of two components – sugar and water, for example – the meter can also measure the concentration and mass of each component through their properties and density. Its flexible integration options and advanced fluid diagnostic software are also strong benefits.

Another advantage of the RCT1000 Coriolis mass flow meter is its low maintenance and long life. Because the meter has no internal moving parts, the vibrating tube design has almost no effect on mechanical wear, so fewer repairs are necessary and replacement will be a long time coming.

During measurement, the liquid flows through a vibrating sensor tube, causing the tube to twist a little bit, and strategically placed sensors measure these deflections. The sensors also detect the resonant frequency at which the tube vibrates as the fluid density changes. The mass flow rate is proportional to the phase shift between the sensor signals. To reduce the effects of process vibration on flow measurement, two tubes on larger sensors vibrate in opposite directions. The meter measures liquid temperature with an internal RTD that calculates the thermal effects on the tube’s frequency of vibration.

The RCT1000 is usable with a number of network options, such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP or Modbus RTU.
