Ohio Broach is versatile in the shapes it can make.

The Ohio Broach & Machine Company employs a skilled team of designers and machinists who can offer an unsurpassed range of broaching services. These talented engineers and craftspeople know how to cut metal into various regular and irregular shapes to create many distinct forms, like hexes, squares, T-shaped slots, teeth, or serrations.

From medical implants and cutting teeth to hand tools, Ohio Broach can tackle any project type that a customer may propose.

Hexes, squares in one pass

The company personnel use its skills on a wide variety of in-house, world-class broaching machinery to create these different shapes. Clients get satisfaction with a range of shapes created on this unique machinery, built by Ohio Broach itself – able to choose from the following examples:

  • Hexes and squares. To produce hexes and squares in one pass, Ohio Broach follows a method known as “broaching on the fly.” This technique involves the indexing of parts that require these forms with the assistance of a gap between the tools. In this way, workers cut multiple surfaces in one cycle.
  • Irregular shapes. Ohio Broach can make a wide range of slots, angles, keyways, and radii on almost any material, including different types of steel. The team accomplishes this in one or two passes, in the secondary and final operations on parts.
  • T-shaped slots. The company’s machinists create special slots in one or two passes, including the T shape. In the two-pass method, the first cycle forms the slot and the second generates the top of the T shape. Virtually any kind of material can be broached into T-shaped slots, including brass, copper, and steel parts.
  • Teeth and serrations. Ohio Broach also has the ability to do this. Staff form gear teeth on the round rack of a tractor’s power-steering unit, for instance, in addition to intricate serrations on the motor mount of a large tank. Another common project the company can handle is small telephone dialing mechanisms, which it can surface-broach in this way.
  • Miscellaneous. Other possibilities available from Ohio Broach’s staff include polygons, involute splines, and plier forms.
