Many businesses rely on compressed air for their manufacturing processes. In most cases, a high level of air purity is required, because any contamination could jeopardize the quality or safety of the product. Air compressors from CompAir are a top choice for many industrial manufacturing applications because they offer a reliable clean air supply, as well as significant energy savings and environmental benefits.

Case in point

A pet food manufacturer in the U.K. moved its operations to a new manufacturing plant, and was looking for energy savings. At the previous facility, numerous smaller compressors from a variety of manufacturers were installed across the plant. These compressors did not provide the best energy efficiency. The new plant gave the company the opportunity to install a more comprehensive, energy-saving system, with increased reliability. It turned to CompAir to meet its complete air requirements.

CompAir air compressors are now being used at the plant to power numerous functions, including moving can gates, pistons and cylinders. Compressed air is also used to prevent can deformation while the pet food is cooked within the can, and during the cool stages of the sterilizing process.

Because compressed air powers the efficient running of the production line, reliability is essential. That’s why the manufacturer selected two CompAir L90 fixed-speed compressors to operate as duty/stand-by machines, and an L75RS regulated-speed compressor to flatten the peaks in compressed air demand. This mix of fixed and regulated-speed compressors ensures optimum efficiency while providing a consistent flow of air. With the combined system, the compressors continually provide the exact amount of air required, enabling the manufacturer to ensure minimum energy waste.

Compressed air in manufacturing

Many manufacturing operations can benefit from the clean air supply, energy savings and environmental benefits offered by CompAir air compressors. For example, compressed air is often used in spray finishing equipment to vaporize paint before applying it to components and products. Compressed air is also a key component in air-operated tools and lifting equipment. It is also used in shot blasting applications, as well as cooling, heating and cleaning applications.
