HARTING’s M8 D-Code connector offers Fast Ethernet and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) via an individual miniaturized interface directly connected to the circuit board -- resulting in big space savings for the end device.

The HARTING Technology Group is meeting the challenge of industrial device miniaturization head-on with its latest development, the M8 D-Code power connector. This new connector provides Fast Ethernet and Power-over-Ethernet connectivity via an individual miniaturized interface that is directly connected to the circuit board; this leads to significant space savings for the end device.

For years, manufacturers of industrial devices have been following a miniaturization trend, but many of them cannot make their products smaller because of the size of the required power connector. HARTING is confronting this common issue with the M8 D-Code, another great example of the company’s penchant for groundbreaking technological innovation.

Suitable for harsh work environments

Miniaturization has many benefits in device manufacturing, but making the components smaller is not enough. Components have to speak a single, common language from end to end, down to the last sensor. The HARTING M8 D-Code solves this problem by offering both power and Ethernet in one connection. Power-over-Ethernet has become a critical need for small industrial devices, as power and Ethernet are both necessities, but today’s devices almost never can accommodate two separate connections. The M8 D-Code power connector offers two essential functions in one component.

Another key advantage of the M8 D-Code is its suitability for harsh work environments. This connector is IP67-protected, and it has also been standardized according to PAS IEC 61076-2-114, which means that users can combine it with connectors and sockets from many different manufacturers. The smaller, but reliable, interface for miniaturization can benefit users in a wide range of industries, including those with harsh environments.

By enabling device miniaturization through Power-over-Ethernet and direct connection to the circuit board, the M8 D-Code is the latest great connectivity solution from HARTING – one that is ready to deal with the changing standards and technical requirements of the future.
