low-profile magnetic drill

Hougen Manufacturing is the inventor of the portable magnetic drill press, and its products are available through Dobco Equipment. One of Hougen’s innovations is the HMD130 ultra low-profile magnetic drill. This is a right-angle drill that distinguishes itself by being lightweight, but also offering a large capacity. This makes the HMD130 the perfect choice for applications that need a powerful drilling solution in a small package.

Smooth cutting with minimal vibration

The HMD130 by Hougen has a powerful eight-amp, 115-volt motor that cuts through one-inch holes up to 1-3/8 inches in diameter. Its high torque gearing enables long-lasting power, and its patented quill feed arbour allows smooth cutting with minimal vibration and little maintenance. The RotaLoc Plus annular cutters provide a bayonet-style twist lock shank for quick cutter changes without the need for extra tools for installation or removal.

Other notable features of this low-profile magnetic drill from Dobco:

  • Weight of only 10.8 kilograms (kg);
  • Pilot light for visibility;
  • Positive slug ejection;
  • Lift-detector safety system;
  • Feed handle that switches easily from side to side;
  • Ratchet that can substitute for feed handle;
  • Rear-mounted controls;
  • Carrying handle; and
  • Carrying case included.

The drill is available with a 25-millimetre (mm) base plate with a dead lift rating of 982 kg and a drillpoint breakaway limit of 333 kg; Hougen also offers a 9½-mm plate with a 544-kg dead lift rating and a 227-kg breakaway limit. This low-profile magnetic drill is recommended for such applications as general fabrication, truck-frame modification, plant maintenance, or onsite assembly and installation.

To ensure a safe work environment, the HMD130 also has a no-adjustment safety switch, which shuts down the drill motor if it detects lifting of the magnetic base. The LED indicator monitors this sensor and alerts if the switch is unengaged. A two-stage power-on switch stops drill rotation unless the magnet is engaged, and safety circuitry keeps the drill motor off after power is restored until the start button is pressed.

For quick, efficient, yet powerful hole-making in confined spaces, trust the HMD130.
