Weld spatter is a major nuisance for welders. It not only makes them less productive, but it also has a major impact on their equipment and their bottom line. Weld spatter, in fact, is widely known to decrease equipment reliability, increase downtime due to maintenance and, as a result, increase costs. But Henkel can help. Its line of Loctite welding solutions can reduce the amount of time spent cleaning and grinding weld spatter on parts and equipment, resulting in increased equipment reliability and welder productivity, reduced downtime and costs, and longer equipment life.

The lineup

Henkel’s portfolio of Loctite welding solutions features three key products designed to protect equipment and parts, and seal porosities.

Loctite SF 7900 is an innovative ceramic coating that protects welding equipment from metal spatter for up to eight hours before it needs to be reapplied. By simply applying this coating, which comes in a 9.5-ounce aerosol spray can, users can increase productivity by up to seven per cent, and reduce costs for consumables by up to 40 per cent. In addition, using this coating will eliminate cleaning costs.

The portfolio also includes Loctite SF 7909 water-based, synthetic, anti-weld spatter. This product must be applied to parts before welding begins to temporarily coat and protect unpainted metal parts from weld spatter. It will not affect weld reliability, as it rinses off with water or alkaline cleaner. Parts protected with Loctite SF 7909 require less grinding post-weld, which saves time and money. This product is available in two sizes — a 16-ounce spray bottle and a one-gallon container.

The third product, Loctite 290, is a medium strength wicking threadlocker that should be applied after welding to fill porosities in welds, castings and powdered metal parts. It’s available in two sizes — a 50- and a 250-millilitre bottle.
