It’s no secret that cut gaskets can leak. Whether it’s due to surface irregularities, gasket relaxation or displacement, or flange bowing or deformation, mechanical gaskets lose their elastic properties and become less resilient over time, causing leaks. However, finding replacement gaskets for older machinery is not always easy, and storing gaskets is not only costly, but they can become brittle or get damaged while in storage.

Henkel has the solution. Its LOCTITE Liquid Gaskets are known for their reliable, leak-proof seal — even in high temperature environments. The company’s new thermally activated sealing compounds — LOCTITE NS 5540 and NS 5550 — are now available for use in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.

Prevent leaks in harsh conditions

LOCTITE NS 5540 and NS 5550 high-temperature sealants are ideal for sealing steam, hydrocarbons, gases, and other process fluids in high-pressure, high-temperature environments such as those found in power-generation facilities, pulp and paper mills, mines, and oil and gas refineries. These sealants have the capability to cure in the presence of heat to form a mechanical seal on metal-to-metal flanges and fittings; however, they are also designed to allow for easy disassembly when maintenance and repairs are required. Both products can also be used as a gasket dressing to augment traditional gaskets and extend their useful life.

LOCTITE NS 5540 is a brushable liquid ideal for use in high pressure steam applications. It can seal flanges carrying up to 2,900 psi (200 bar) steam at temperatures up to 700 degrees C (1300 degrees F). Meanwhile, LOCTITE NS 5550 is a fibrous paste sealant designed for use in temperatures up to 815 degrees C (1500 degrees F), as well as high pressure applications up to 5000 psi (340 bar).
