The Dual Maverick from Red-D-Arc

Red-D-Arc Welderentals supplies welding solutions by Lincoln Electric, including the Dual Maverick 200/200X diesel-engine-driven welder. This unit gets its name from its two front panels and two sets of output lugs: this is a dual-operator welding power source with a 24.8-horsepower, water-cooled Kubota diesel engine that allows two workers to weld independently of each other at once. This multi-user machine reduces fuel and maintenance costs by up to 33 per cent over 1,000 hours.

Annual savings of $14,000

There are disadvantages to supplying two welding operators with separate engine-driven welding machines. Extra equipment adds needless clutter and additional maintenance, and one welding machine per worker is less fuel-efficient than the Dual Maverick 200/200X is. The aforementioned 1,000-hour savings of this welder equates to roughly one year of typical use.

The fuel and maintenance savings result from smart features built into the power source. The Dual Maverick 200/200X from Red-D-Arc provides variable engine speed that scales in proportion to the necessary output power, and the Auto Stop/Start shuts the engine down instantly after a period of inactivity. To restart the engine, the user needs only to tap the wire or stick electrode to the workpiece.

With CrossLinc technology, users do not have to return to the power source to adjust welding amperage or voltage. Using the CrossLinc Remote or enabled wire feeder permits users to ensure compliance to the WPS and make sure every weld is made with optimal settings for material thickness and position. CrossLinc allows at least four weld setting adjustments a day, for an estimated annual savings of $14,000.

For field repairs, the power source has an arc-gouging capability with a current as high as 450 amps in single-user mode and 250 amps per operator in dual mode. Workers can effectively use carbon electrodes from 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch in single mode, or 1/8 to 5/16 in dual mode. The Dual Maverick 200/200X can also be used to provide worksite power, offering up to ten kilowatts of single-phase AC through a 240-volt receptacle and multiple 120-volt ones on the front panel.
