Lightweight expansion joint features innovative design

HOLZ Rubber Company’s Series 320EZ is a lightweight piping expansion joint designed specifically for FRP (Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic) piping. Available in Canada through Northern Industrial Supply Co. (NISCO), this expansion joint features an innovative design, which has enabled it to have the lowest spring rates in the industry, as well as the lowest forces applied to the mating flanges.

Major advantages

There are many benefits to the 320EZ’s lightweight design. This unit is up to 50 per cent lighter than other piping expansion joints, resulting in easier handling and reduced freight costs. In addition, it requires a lighter anchoring system, which also saves money.

The 320EZ is excellent for applications where compression, extension, lateral, angular deflection and torsional movements are involved, and it offers excellent pressure capacity for low, standard and most high pressure designs. In addition, the joint’s lower reaction force and springs rates — the lowest in the industry — help to reduce stress load.

Holz Rubber Company manufactures the 320EZ Lightweight Piping Expansion Joint in Nitrile tube with a Neoprene cover, and in EPDM tube with an EPDM cover. The joint with Buna-Nitrile construction can handle temperatures up to 107 degrees C (225 degrees F), and offers resistance to hydrocarbons, fats, oils, greases, chemicals and hydraulic fluids. The joint with the EPDM construction, on the other hand, is suitable for applications exposed to temperatures up to 149 degrees C (300 degrees F), and offers resistance to animal and vegetable oil, ozone, and strong and oxidizing chemicals. These two combinations will take care of most applications encountered, though other elastomers are available upon request. These units are available in stock with 1.5- to 20-inch inside diameters.
